VMware is always looking to be a very efficient platform. As a result of that, I have seen that VMware has followed and utilized advances in recent years with regards to computing power: more RAM, faster cores, faster I/O speeds. VMware, for many years, has been limited by the hardware resources available in any given environment, however, this is currently shifting into being able to do the same job with less resources, less of a OS and resource footprint is needed. The market is being driven in this direction with other technologies, namely the movement surrounding what is called “Big Data” and machine learning analytics. While processing power is becoming very cheap to rent, by the hour in some places, more businesses are willing to try some type of heavy analytical processing in order to help sales, manufacturing processes, software enhancements, etc., where VMware has a great product to play in this space.
Challenges to Resolve
As with many technologies, VMware was created with a specific goal in mind and the vision of what is needed by consumers has changed drastically since the beginning. Businesses which are constrained by a fixed space for server hardware, are always faced with the challenge of making room for new systems as the company scales alongside the legacy systems, meaning more servers in the same amount of space. The footprint of each system is now forced to get smaller or compete for shared resources. VMware will face challenges in competing with technologies like Docker software that use only the minimum amount of resources needed for a project. This type of new technology also offers more stability in the software environment and an assuredness of the environment and its configuration.
With technologies like Big Data, Cloud, and IoT put into use, the VMware sector is through one of the most transformative periods in its history. What are your views on how these technologies can be timed to increase productivity and help companies reach their goals?

We live in a time where we have access to massive amounts of data and one of the most popular questions to ask is: how can a company extract the value of the data? It is a challenge to even identify a small amount of value to extract from the data, even when the data has much larger potential to benefit the organization. VMware is in a prime position to serve as a cloud-processing platform which business can use to extract the value of IoT, big data sets and couple this with machine learning algorithms tailored to the data. This will provide a big advantage for early companies who wish to harness the power of data and machine learning on the VMware platform.
The VMWare Ecosystem
Network Virtualization is just as crucial as VMware when it was first introduced. Sys admins can manage 10x or 100x the network when it is virtualized, changes are more rapid, fail-overs are more stable when they happen, network segmenting is added for security, this is all due to the ability of virtualizing network hardware within software.
Collaboration with Dell
Dell is a strong choice for VMware to be a part of, Dell has been a technology leader in both server-class and business class computers for many years and this will bolster VMware’s ability to seamlessly integrate into industry-leading hardware and software, including Dell’s custom software like Dell RemoteScan.
The Security Landscape
How we think of security is dramatically changing on a weekly basis, it seems. There is a much bigger “uphill battle” for security software and this is due to the vast amount of people who maliciously attack remote networks. These individuals are using the latest technologies created by very skilled developers, this ever changing target is what creates the challenge for VMware. Having an environment fully integrated with VMware core services and virtualized networking devices allows security professionals to have the most complete picture possible when a breach happens.
Meeting the Needs
Current shortfall of VMware and virtual environments is disaster recovery (DR). There are a number of options but nothing that 1) simplifies the process and 2), is cost effective for smaller organizations in the rapidly growing industry. New technologies, like Red Hat Directory Server, will require VMware to provide system administrators with the tools they need to effectively manage the organization.
Advice for Entrepreneurs
VMware will need to remain a strong force in the virtualized OS space, this is where its core strength lies. The push for organizations to squeeze as much value for the dollar as they can is always present and this not only means hardware and software, but this is also now starting to mean using less energy and using resources efficiently to not waste energy. New technologies, like Dockers, are something that VMware will need to adapt with as that landscape matures and develops. Smaller footprints are required to do same job as before, which is another way the industry shows us they are looking at ways to manage their infrastructure in the most efficient and flexible way possible while still allowing for future growth.
